Mitchell International has officially ended support for its on-premise collision estimating software, Ultramate. While pricing and terms remain unchanged for existing contracts until renewal, the December 28, 2023 (U.S.) and January 1, 2024 (Canada) deadlines marked the end of an era for this popular software. Users are now being transitioned to Mitchell Cloud Estimating.
According to Jack Rozint, Senior Vice President of Repair Sales at Mitchell, current UltraMate customers with active contracts have been provided access to Mitchell Cloud Estimating. Existing contract pricing and terms will be honored until the next renewal period. This transition reflects Mitchell’s ongoing investment in cloud-based solutions and its commitment to helping customers adapt to more modern, web-enabled technologies.
The Move to the Cloud: Why Mitchell Discontinued UltraMate
Mitchell’s shift towards cloud-based estimating began in 2017 with the launch of Mitchell Cloud Estimating. This strategic decision was driven by the desire to offer customers a more advanced, scalable, and secure platform. While the UltraMate interface had seen updates over the years, its core software, dating back over two decades, was becoming increasingly outdated.

The cloud platform promised faster estimating capabilities while still producing estimates identical to those generated by UltraMate. The transition also reflects the broader industry trend towards cloud-based solutions that offer greater flexibility and accessibility.

Transitioning from UltraMate: What to Expect
The final UltraMate update (Version 7.1.243) was released in July 2023. While Mitchell Alternate Parts Program (MAPP) data updates continued until December 28, 2023, no further UltraMate updates are planned. Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) in Canada has confirmed that no further updates will be required after the July 2023 release and is working on a transition plan for claims with estimates created in UltraMate.
New installations and reinstalls will default to the final July UltraMate version. Mitchell is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all UltraMate users to the cloud platform.
Conclusion: Embracing the Future of Collision Estimating
The discontinuation of UltraMate signifies Mitchell’s commitment to cloud-based solutions as the future of collision estimating. While the change may require adjustment for some users, the benefits of enhanced functionality, accessibility, and scalability offered by Mitchell Cloud Estimating are designed to improve efficiency and streamline the estimating process for repair shops.
