NSIMO Supports Hibatwan Irrigators Association Model Farm Turnover

The Northern Samar Irrigation Management Office (Nsimo) led the turnover of the Hibatwan Irrigators Association (IA) Model Farm on January 24, 2023, at the Palapag Gymnasium in Northern Samar. This project, funded by the Irrigation Management Transfer Support Services (IMTSS), recognizes the Hibatwan IA’s outstanding achievements, including recognition at the regional level and nomination at the national level under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

Model Farm Aims to Boost Agricultural Productivity

The model farm aims to promote diversified cropping and enhance agricultural productivity in the province and the country. The Hibatwan farmers participated in a Season Long Farmer’s Field School (FFS) for Vegetable Production from July 7 to October 26, 2023. Municipal Agriculture Technicians in Palapag served as resource speakers, equipping the IA with the necessary knowledge to manage the model farm effectively. The FFS focused on providing practical training in vegetable production techniques.

NSIMO and Local Officials Attend Turnover Ceremony

The turnover ceremony was attended by NIA Central Office Community Development Officer Ms. Lorna Villagonzalo, NIA Region VIII Senior Irrigators Development Officer Ms. Daisy G. Cachuela, and NSIMO Assistant IMO Manager Engr. Cesar Echano. Local officials, including Hon. Pepito A. Laoreno, Sangguniang Bayan Chair on the Committee on Agriculture of Palapag; Mr. Leonardo A. Esteria, Municipal Agriculture Officer; and Engr. Ma. Christina Ladeza, representing the Provincial Agriculture Office, were also present.

Hibatwan IA President Accepts the Challenge

Mr. Alfredo B. Sereguine, President of Hibatwan FIA, Inc., accepted the responsibility of operating and maintaining the model farm. He stressed the importance of cooperation among members and officers to maximize the farm’s benefits and improve its management. The successful operation of the model farm hinges on the collaborative efforts of the Hibatwan IA.

This initiative reflects NIA’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and increasing farmers’ income.
