GM SPS2: Programming a TCM on a 2012 Chevy Silverado

GM has transitioned from SPS to the updated Gm Sps2 programming system. While the website remains the same, users must purchase subscriptions to access the software. This article outlines the process of programming a Transmission Control Module (TCM) on a 2012 Chevy Silverado using GM SPS2 and a J2534 pass-thru device.

Accessing GM SPS2 through Techline Connect

The GM SPS2 software is accessed through GM’s Techline Connect application. Techline Connect integrates both GDS2 and SPS2, offering a comprehensive diagnostic and programming solution. A yearly subscription provides access to both systems, although a per-vehicle fee applies for SPS2 programming events.

Connecting to the Vehicle and Initiating Programming

Launch Techline Connect and select SPS2. Connect to the vehicle using a compatible J2534 pass-thru device, such as the Autel MaxiFlash JVCI J2534. Other J2534 devices, including the Maxiflash VCI, VCMII, MDI, MDI2, VXDIAG VCX NANO for GM, and VCM3, can also be used.

Post-Programming Procedures

After successful programming, GM SPS2 will provide confirmation. Cycle the ignition, clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), and perform a test drive to verify proper TCM operation.
