Ford DTC U0415 00 08: RR Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement

A recent repair involved a Ford truck experiencing issues with the right rear (RR) wheel speed sensor, triggering the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0415 00 08. This code, along with illuminated ABS and traction control warning lights, pointed towards a faulty sensor. The “Service AdvanceTrac” message was also displayed on the instrument cluster.

Upon initial inspection, the old RR wheel speed sensor was covered in a significant amount of metallic sludge. While cleaning might have been attempted, the damaged sensor gasket made a proper seal unlikely. Therefore, replacement was deemed the most effective solution.

After installing the new RR wheel speed sensor and clearing the existing codes, the DTC U0415 00 08 immediately reappeared. Subsequent attempts to clear the code, even after cycling the ignition key, proved unsuccessful. The warning lights also persisted.

However, a road test revealed a positive outcome. Live data graphing of all four wheel speed sensors showed normal readings. Shortly after commencing the drive, the ABS and traction control warning lights, along with the AdvanceTrac service message, extinguished and remained off for the duration of the seven-mile test drive.

Prior to the sensor replacement, clearing the codes resulted in the warning lights returning within five miles. The extended absence of the warning lights and the DTC U0415 00 08 following the sensor replacement strongly indicates a successful repair. The persistent normal readings from the new sensor further confirm this conclusion. The metallic sludge on the old sensor likely interfered with its ability to accurately read wheel speed, leading to the DTC U0415 00 08 and associated warnings. Replacing the faulty sensor resolved the underlying issue.
