BMW X3 2011 Modified: A Comprehensive Build

The BMW X3 2011 offers a fantastic platform for modifications. This article details a comprehensive build focusing on performance enhancements for an X3 with remarkably low mileage. The initial modifications included aesthetic and performance upgrades like BC Forged wheels, Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs, a Supersprint exhaust, a Hartge ECU and accelerator booster, a Burger Motorsports intake, and Brembo GT big brakes.

Phase 1: Initial Modifications

The owner’s journey began with a focus on both looks and performance. The exterior received BC Forged HB09 wheels in a staggered setup (20x9J front and 20×10.5J rear) with Pirelli P Zero tires. Eibach Pro Kit springs lowered the X3 by 30mm for a more aggressive stance. Performance enhancements included a Supersprint catback exhaust for a sportier sound, a Hartge ECU and accelerator booster for improved throttle response and power, a Burger Motorsports intake for increased airflow, and a Brembo GT Big Brake Kit for superior stopping power. The rear brakes were upgraded with Stoptech drilled rotors and EBC Redstuff low-dust ceramic pads. Finally, a carbon fiber print wrap was applied to the hood, roof, and spoiler.

Phase 2: Performance Overhaul

After the Hartge ECU malfunctioned, the owner decided to embark on a more extensive performance build. The core of this upgrade revolves around a Pure Stage 2 Turbo upgrade, supported by an FTP Chargepipe and Boostpipe, and a Ruff custom front-mount intercooler (FMIC). Exhaust flow is further improved with a Ruff custom catless downpipe. To manage the increased heat, a Ruff custom oil cooler was installed.

Supporting Modifications

Complementing the turbo upgrade are several supporting modifications. These include an aFE Magnum Force Stage 2 cold air intake, Precision Racewerks ignition coils, colder spark plugs designed for tuned engines, and a Walbro LPFP upgrade to ensure adequate fuel supply. The suspension was also upgraded to KW DDC Plug and Play Coilovers with EDC for improved handling and adjustability. Finally, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires were chosen for enhanced grip.

Tuning and Results

The final piece of the puzzle is a custom tune using the MHD Flasher. Initial dyno results before the custom tune showed significant gains compared to the baseline. The owner is aiming to maximize the N55 engine’s potential without internal modifications.
