Autel diagnostic scan tablets now have FCA certification to access the Secure Gateway Module (SGW) on 2017 and newer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) vehicles. This certification, effective June 1, 2020, allows technicians to bypass the SGW and perform advanced diagnostics.
The SGW acts as a firewall, protecting vehicle networks and crucial systems from unauthorized access. FCA implemented the SGW not to restrict diagnostic data but to prevent unauthorized users from performing intrusive diagnostics, including bi-directional controls like calibrations, relearns, and actuations. Even clearing diagnostic trouble codes was restricted prior to this certification.
Auto Auth Service Registration Process
Autel tablet users gain access to the SGW through AutoAuth, an Auto Auth Service. Shops register via AutoAuth’s online portal for an annual fee of $50, covering up to six users. Additional users can be added for a nominal fee. After registering, shops can register up to 100 Autel tablets on the site.
Autel automatically updates all North American market tablets with active software subscriptions. Users with expired subscriptions can purchase a Total Care Program renewal from authorized Autel dealers. This program ensures access to the necessary software updates for SGW access.

The auto auth service is essential for technicians working on FCA vehicles. Without proper authentication, performing crucial diagnostic tasks and even simple code clearing becomes impossible. The SGW effectively blocks access, hindering troubleshooting and repair processes. This service allows independent repair shops to maintain and service newer FCA vehicles.
