Autel diagnostic scan tablets are now certified by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to access the Secure Gateway Module (SGW) on 2017 and newer FCA vehicles. This certification requires registration with AutoAuth, enabling Autel users to perform previously restricted diagnostic functions.
The SGW acts as a firewall, protecting vehicle networks and systems from unauthorized access. Implemented gradually since 2017, the SGW is now standard on nearly all 2020 FCA vehicles. It restricts “intrusive diagnostics” by non-registered users, including bi-directional controls like calibrations, relearns, actuations, and even clearing codes.
Autel tablet users can gain SGW access through AutoAuth, an authentication service requiring annual registration. For a $50 yearly fee, up to six users from a single shop can register, with options for additional users at a nominal fee. Shops can register up to 100 Autel tablets on the AutoAuth platform.
Autel automatically updates North American tablets with active software subscriptions. Users with expired subscriptions can renew their Total Care Program through authorized Autel dealers. This software update enables crucial functionality for diagnosing and servicing modern FCA vehicles.
AutoAuth provides a straightforward online registration portal for shops and technicians.
Understanding and utilizing AutoAuth is essential for servicing FCA vehicles. This process ensures secure access while empowering technicians with the necessary tools for comprehensive diagnostics and repairs.
The SGW implementation underscores the increasing complexity of modern vehicle systems and the importance of authorized access for proper maintenance. Auto Auth Autel integration addresses this challenge, providing a secure and efficient solution for technicians working with FCA vehicles.
